Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family News | 7 February 2020
Come! Live in the Light!
You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?
It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;
it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.
~ Matthew 5:13-16
Dear St. Clare School Families,
Pope Francis, in his Address at the World Meeting of Popular Movements in Bolivia, clearly stated the role of the laity in upholding the dignity of the human person.
The future of humanity does not lie solely in the hands of great leaders, the great powers and the elites. It is fundamentally in the hands of peoples and in their ability to organize. It is in their hands, which can guide with humility and conviction this process of change. I am with you. Each of us, let repeat from the heart: no family without lodging, no rural worker without land, no laborer without rights, no people without sovereignty, no individual without dignity, no child without childhood, no young person without a future, no elderly person without a venerable old age.
Just as Jesus said, “I have given you an example so that you may copy what I have done for you.” (John 13:15)
Your Room Reps and classroom teachers should have already communicated with you the list of items (a flyer, created by Noah Reyes in 6th grade is attached) we are asking your grade to contribute items towards our One Love Day of Service on Saturday, February 29. You may also contribute money to purchase items by going to the SCHOOL STORE.
Soon, you will get an opportunity to respond to an invitation to volunteer and participate in service opportunities to bring our community together to benefit our brothers and sisters. Please look out for this post.
Participation in the Day of Service also gives students in grades 6 to 8 an opportunity to earn Christian service hours. In addition, parent participation may also be logged as part of your Serving St. Clare family service hour commitment.
With so much negativity on social media and in private and public chatter, our community needs this opportunity to come together and share a positive and uplifting experience to show gratitude for all that we have been blessed!
A couple of hours of your time on a Saturday will greatly impact the lives of those who have very little. More importantly, it is an opportunity to model for our children that we are called to agape, divine love. We exhibit this love through acts of Christian service. In the Christian hymn, “They’ll know we are Christians by our love” we sing:
We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord
We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord
And we pray that our unity will one day be restored
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love
Yeah they'll know we are Christians by our love
We will work with each other, we will work side by side
We will work with each other, we will work side by side
And we'll guard each man's dignity and save each man's pride
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love
Yeah, they'll know we are Christians by our love.
A few reminders for you:
RSVP for the School Advisory Council Meeting on February 11 starting at 5:30 P.M. to engage in the WCEA Action Plan. Our Mid-Cycle Revisit is on Tuesday, February 25.
Due on Monday, February 10: Tuition Agreement for 2020-21 Enrollment. Thank you to those who have returned theirs! We are grateful.
Continue to practice good hygiene and keep an eye on student health at home. If a student is sent to school with a fever, we will call you to pick them up for the safety of our students and our teachers. Please see my recent post regarding updates on the Novel Coronavirus from the CDC and the SCCPHD.
School will be closed from February 14-18. As such, CKZ/extended care will not be available.
Please observe TRAFFIC RULES at all times. While Washington Street is open only for School and Parish business from 8A-4P each day, it does not mean that traffic rules do not apply. PLEASE! Do not park in the middle of the street or especially if you are dropping off your students. Please park in designated parking spaces. You are welcome to open the gate and park in the lot. Please close the gate behind you when you exit. MORE IMPORTANTLY, be very cautious when driving in the parking lot especially when students are around. Please observe a 5 MPH speed limit. Do not honk your horn unless it is an emergency. Thank you keeping our campus safe and secure for our students and parishioners.
We are so very proud of our Math Club. If you’ve read a recent copy of The Valley Catholic, the St. Clare School Math Club was featured for their acts of service during the Advent Season.
The Department of Catholic Schools has released the Start and End Date for the 2020-21 school year: First Day of School on Wednesday, August 19, 2020; Last Day of School on Friday, June 11, 2021.
Our focus habit this week is "Choose Love". The intentionality of using the word "Choose" reminds us that it is indeed a choice to love or to hate or to be indifferent. Choosing to love means we've thought it through and we commit to it.
As always, we acknowledge that there are many excellent choices out there for the education of your children. We are grateful that you have chosen to become part of the St. Clare School family: a community who truly welcomes all and supports all as best as we can because we believe that all students can learn and that all are made in the image and likeness of God.
If we truly believe this, then we have to work together in support of one another.
Humbly in your service,
Mrs. Cecile Mantecon, Principal
Thank you to the Fourth Grade for hosting our faculty luncheon this past week. We felt the love!
